Guidelines for submitting story: Your story must be unpublished and no more than 1500 words. The title is not counted toward the word count. The story can be about anything you like. While the book, Writing is Easy is mainly fiction, creative non-fiction entries will be accepted as well. The 1500 word (or fewer) length will be strictly enforced. Any entries over 1500 will be discarded. There will be no refund of entry fee. In addition to the story itself, you MUST include a separate section which includes an answer to the following questions. The answers to these questions are to be no more than three sentences each. Run-on sentences will hurt your chances of winning. Failure to include answers will disqualify the story with no refund of fee. The winner's questions and answers appear along with the story in the book Writing is Easy. The questions and answers are NOT to be counted in the story's word count. 1) What inspired you to write this story? 2) At what point during the writing did you have an ending in mind? 3) Approximately how long did it take for you to complete the first draft and the final product? 4) What key words or phrases do you see as critical to the tone of your story? Remember to keep your answer to each question within the three sentence rule. $10 entry fee is required for all submissions. Enter as many stories as you like. The $10 entry fee is required for each story. If you enter three stories, the fee would be $30. All fees are non-refundable. The dates for accepting entries are from August 15, 2009 to midnight EST September 15, 2009. Any entries received after midnight on the closing date will be disqualified with no refund of entry fee. All submissions are to be made online. Each story should be in Microsoft Word (Office 2003 or earlier) and be attached to the submission email. Your name should NOT appear on your attached entry. You may include multiple stories in one email as long as the proper fees have been paid. If you send multiple stories but only pay one $10 fee, the first story in the attachment list will be used for the contest and the others will be discarded. You must be eighteen (18) years of age by midnight September 15, 2009 to enter.
